About the project

How do you create a show apartment that does not feel like a show apartment? That question shaped Vinorum 1905, which I designed in collaboration with Karina Svoboda for the Vertex Group development.

I wanted to create an apartment that lets you imagine your life there the moment you enter. Not a perfectly staged setting for viewings, but a real home: a place for morning coffee, settling in with a book, or inviting friends to dinner.

Even within a one-bedroom layout, we found room for distinctive design pieces, art and details that give the interior a personal character.

A touch of Milan

I love Milan and the Italian design of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s: its willingness to experiment with colour, glossy surfaces, unexpected materials and sculptural forms. I wanted to bring some of that atmosphere to Vinorum 1905.

In the bedroom, a glossy lacquered wardrobe appears in an unusual powder shade. The living space is defined by a geometric, curved television wall in stainless steel. In the bathroom, a convex vanity unit surprises with an ombré colour transition.

These are the details that draw me in: a little unexpected, expressive, yet naturally part of the whole.

One of the interior’s central protagonists is the iconic Soriana sofa by Cassina, designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa in 1969. Its soft, almost sculptural form is a perfect example of Italian design that has lost none of its relevance after more than fifty years.

Soriana meets other Italian vintage pieces chosen in collaboration with Studio Lavish. I like interiors where not everything comes from the same collection or the same era. The meeting of different periods gives them ease and a story of their own.

Art as part of the home

Contemporary Czech art also plays an important role in Vinorum 1905. The curatorial concept led by Karina Svoboda features work by Lukáš Novák, Michal Bačák, Tereza Strnad and Pavel Dušek.

Art is not an afterthought here. It becomes a natural part of the interior, bringing colour, texture and stories. Together with vintage furniture and contemporary design, it creates a space that feels personal, as though its objects had been collected over time.

From one apartment to the entire residence

My work on Vinorum 1905 did not stop with the show apartment. I also selected the material standards for the entire residence: flooring, doors, bathroom tile and sanitaryware, lighting and wall colours.

Chevron oak flooring, historic windows in a gentle RAL 1013 shade and light walls create the foundation of a material palette that respects the history of the building without attempting to imitate it.

For the bathrooms, Karina and I selected travertine, whose warm tones and natural texture complement the historic character of the house.

In the show apartment, I chose to use travertine only up to a height of 120 cm and paint the rest of the walls in a rich gallery blue by Little Greene. The colour came from an exhibition I once saw at Vienna’s Albertina and have not forgotten since.

The contrast between natural stone and saturated blue gives the bathroom an unexpected, almost gallery-like atmosphere.

These are the kinds of contrasts I enjoy: bringing together classic materials with bolder colour, and introducing inspiration from art, architecture and places I have visited.
